El Salvador defeats Costa Rica and wins the Bronze

TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, July 20, 2019 - El Salvador defeated Costa Rica 3-2 (25-21, 25-19, 19-25, 20-25, 15-10) and won the Bronze Medal of the XVIII Central American Championship Women’s U20 which takes place in Gym # 2 Jorge Galeano of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.

Again Daniela Sánchez (18) and Daniela López (15) were the center of the Salvadoran attack. For Costa Rica, Ana Victoria Rojas and Lakisha Thompson were the best with 19 and 18 points, respectively.

El Salvador was superior to Costa Rica in services, getting 11 aces against 6 of the rivals. While Costa Rica dominated the blocking 10-3 and attacks 51-49.

The defeat of Costa Rica means that this year there will be new champions, as the Costa Ricans won the editions of 2015 and 2017. This is the first time since the start of the U20 Championships that Costa Rica is out of the podium. El Salvador could not get on the podium since 2011, when they also won the bronze medal.
