Salvador finishes fifth at AFECAVOL U-18
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, August 19, 2017.- El Salvador took down
Belize 3-0 (25-19, 25-20, 25-22) to finish fifth at the XII
AFECAVOL Girls’ U-18 Central American Championship at Jorge A.
Galeano Gymnasium in Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
El Salvador held 7-5 advantage in serves and benefited from 44
opponent errors to down Belize who led in with 25-21 margin in
spikes and 4-3 in blocks. El Salvador committed 27 unforced
errors.
Middle blocker Daniela Sanchez of El Salvador scored 12 points
on a match-high; Helen Corea contributed on the winning side
with 7 points. Outside hitter Gareth Bruce led Belize with 9
points, joined by opposite Fatoumata Camara and middle blocker
Zalika Henderson with 8 and 7 points accordingly.
Daniela Sanchez, captain of El Salvador:
“Our concentration against Belize was much better; we need to
work on this when we go back to practice. The passing worked
well and our spikes were efficient”.
Erick Hernandez, coach of El Salvador:
“Generally speaking it was a good tournament and we finish on a
positive note. My players need to work on keeping their moral
high, they are young and there’s time for them to develop”.
El Salvador finishes with 1-4 record and 5 points while Belize
ends win-less. |
