MANAGUA, Nicaragua, October 20,
2021 - El Salvador won a great battle against
Belize (1-2) by beating them 3-2 (21-25, 25-19,
21-25, 25-18, 18-16), getting its third victory
by one defeat in the XXI Central American Senior
Women's Volleyball Cup.
Adriana Flores won the captains' duel by getting
29 points for the Salvadorans, while the captain
of Belize, Nelissa Ramírez, scored 16. Gabriela
Funes was the best scorer for the winners with
30 points, 10 of them in the second set and 7 in
the fifth and decisive, while Sherika Burton was
left with 20 points for the Belizeans, of them
seven in the first set and 5 in the fifth.
El Salvador was better in attack 61-47 and serve
(9-7) and in blocking they were equal with 12,
Belize could not take advantage of 37 points due
to errors by its opponent, committing 28.
The Belizeans took control of the first set with
an early advantage, which El Salvador could not
overcome thanks to Burton's effectiveness and
errors in service and reception.
The second was entirely from the Salvadorans
with Funes as the main weapon, who was also
successful in blocking. Belize again took
advantage of the lack of concentration of its
rival to win the third set, combining the good
moment of its captain Ramírez (9 points), with
changes of rhythm in attack, with “ligth touch”
in the rival zone 4.
For the fifth set, with the tension on the
surface, both teams gave a great show of courage
and good defense, highlighting a "save" by the
Salvadoran libero Carmen Chávez, who finished in
the final point 18-16 for her team.
El Salvador rests on Thursday's action, while
Belize will face Guatemala at 1:00 p.m. |
