SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, August 17, 2015.- A thrilling match
between El Salvador and Honduras marked the beginning of day two
of the Girls’ AFECAVOL U-18 Championship, a battle that
extended to five sets for El Salvador 3-2 (25-19,26-24,
17-25,22-25,15-11)
El Salvador won the first two sets and Honduras tied taking the
next two, El Salvador had less errors (50-46) and a good
defense.
El Salvador’s captain Gabriel Funes said “Honduras outdueled us
on occasions, but we were able to turn things in our favor
despite the injury of one of our players”.
Ruth Aguilar, captain of Honduras said “it was a good match,
with ups and downs for us, there were desperation, it was well
disputed and we gave it all we have”.
Funes was the top scorer with 24 points on 18 spikes, two blocks
and four serves; teammate Tatiana Menjivar added 9 points.
For Honduras, top scorers were Nathaly Perez with 15 points and
Zabdi Canales with 10.
Coach Hernandez of El Salvador said about the match outcome “our
game system worked out in the first two sets, in the following
two we lost concentration and Honduras took advantage of our
weaknesses”.
Marco Tejeda coach of Honduras said “we lost because we got in
the rhythm to late, without underestimating El Salvador’s
effort, we could have won the second set without difficulties
but we had a bad warm up, I congratulate El Salvador who played
the fifth set with determination”. |
