dominate Men Pool Play in Beach Volleyball

ASUNCIÓN, Paraguay, August 19, 2025.- El Salvador, United States, Venezuela and Brazil went undefeated in men pool play at the Beach Volleyball tournament of the II Junior Pan American Games Asunción 2025, held at the Estadio Pynandí of the Paraguayan Olympic Committee, securing the top spot in their respective pools and advancing with authority to the knockout stage.

In Pool A, twins Yoel and Christopher Guardado of El Salvador remained flawless, without dropping a single set in the group stage. On Tuesday, they sealed first place with a 2-0 (21-18, 21-12) win over Paraguay’s Juanangel Gómez and Camilo Vargas. The Salvadorians now await the winner of the match between González/Inostroza (ARG) and De Jesús/Maldonado (DOM).

Final standing pool A: 1. Guardado/Guardado (ESA) 3-0; 2. Martin/Quintero (CHI) 2-1; 3. Juan/Camilo (PAR) 1-2; 4. Bristol/Clerique (SKN) 0-3.

In Pool B, the American duo Gage Basey and Thomas Hurst confirmed their dominance with a 2-0 (21-15, 21-17) victory over José/Isaac (ECU), completing their perfect run. They now wait for the winner between Martin/Quintero (CHI) and Cuadrado/Luciano (URU).

Final standing pool B: 1. Basey/Hurst (USA) 3-0; 2. González/Inostroza (ARG) 2-1; 3. Gómez/Veranes (CUB) 1-2; 4. José/Isaac (ECU) 0-3.

In Pool C, Venezuela’s Enyenser Delgado and Juliangel Zaid had a flawless day, winning both of their matches. They first defeated Cuadrado/Luciano (URU) 2-0 (21-11, 21-17) and later swept Chaput/McGregor (CAN) 2-0 (21-11, 21-14), securing the top position. They now await the winner between Araya/Varela (CRC) and Gómez/Veranes (CUB).

Final standing pool C: 1. Delgado/Zaid (VEN) 3-0; 2. Chaput/McGregor (CAN) 2-1; 3. Cuadrado/Luciano (URU) 1-2; 4. López/López (NCA) 0-3.

Finally, in pool D, defending champions Brazil, Isac Farias and José Jonathan Heleno de Menezes, started strong with a 2-0 (21-14, 21-11) win against David/Julio (BOL). In their second match, they were pushed to the limit by Costa Rica’s Julián Araya and Jhostin Varela, but prevailed in a tie-break 2-1 (21-17, 17-21, 21-19). The Brazilians now await the winner between Chaput/McGregor (CAN) and Juan/Camilo (PAR).

Final standing pool D: 1. Isac/Jonathan (BRA) 3-0; 2. Araya/Varela (CRC) 2-1; 3. De Jesús/Maldonado (DOM) 1-2; 4. David/Julio (BOL) 0-3.

The competition continues on Wednesday, August 20, starting at 9:00 AM (local time) with the Round of 16, as teams battle for a spot in the quarterfinals.
