Erasma Moreno: MVP of the First Round
SANTO DOMINGO – Wing spiker Erasma Moreno of Caribeñas New
Horizons, who established a 38-point record in a single game and
reached the 20-point plateau in her three matches, was selected
the Most Valuable Player of the first round of the Superior
League of Women's Volleyball (LSVF) tournament.
The election of Moreno was the result of a poll among the
journalists covering the activities of the tournament in its
second edition.
Moreno scored 38 points in the loss to Cristo Rey on March 5,
breaking the record of 26 established by Gaila González of
Cristo Rey last season.
Moreno scored 26 and 22 points in the 3-1 victories over Cristo
Rey and Las Guerreras and had the best effective average among
the attackers with more than 100 attempts with 43.02 percent
from landing 77 out of 179 swings.
Other players who were considered for the honor were Cristo Rey
middle blocker, Marifranchi Rodríguez, and the Mirador wing
spiker, Natalia Martínez.
Rodriguez established a new record of blocks in a match with 11
in the victory over Las Guerreras on March 5. In the first round
she totaled 21 stuffed shots at the net while scoring 47 points.
Martinez escorted Moreno as the second best scorer of the round
with 71 points that included 33 in the victory over the
Caribeñas. She also had a match of 23 points in the success of
her team on the opening day against Las Guerreras.
The Cristo Rey, Caribeñas and Mirador teams had 2-1 records in
the first round. Cristo Rey accumulated 11 points against 9 and
7 of Caribeñas and Cristo Rey, respectively.
Guerreras finished with 0-3 and 3 points. |
