FIVB Development Commission Reiterates Commitment To Supporting National Federations Worldwide

LAUSANNE, Switzerland, February 10, 2022 - The FIVB Development Commission met today to discuss various ways of supporting all 222 of the FIVB’s National Federations around the world.

Today’s meeting was held in a hybrid format, with the President and Secretary of the Commission joining from the FIVB Headquarters in Lausanne, Switzerland.

The Commission discussed the impact of the FIVB development support provided to National Federations since 2017, as well as future plans to help elevate the sport to the next level.

The Commission President, Mushtaque Mohammed, joined FIVB President Dr Ary S. Graça F° in expressing his commitment to the FIVB Development and Empowerment Commissions working closely together for the benefit of the sport and National Federations.

During the Commission meeting, the FIVB President said:

“It is important for me to repeat that I strongly believe that the money that comes from the sport must be reinvested back into the sport.  Since 2017, a total of 480 projects from 222 National Federations from all five Continental Confederations were approved by the FIVB with a total investment of 11 million USD.

“Allow me to provide a breakdown of these 480 approved projects: for coach support, 189 projects were approved with an investment of over 6.5 million USD. For volleyball equipment, there were 256 projects with more than 4 million USD invested.

“And finally, for knowledge transfer programmes, 35 projects were approved, totalling an investment of around 200,000 USD. All five continents were supported with 159 projects in Africa, 135 in Asia, 99 in Europe, 63 in NORCECA and 24 in South America. On top of this, we also support National Federations with their applications for additional support via Olympic Solidarity.”

All 222 National Federations can apply for coach support, equipment support and knowledge transfer programmes. In addition, the FIVB listened to the feedback of its National Federations and last year opened the applications process to 365 days a year throughout four application windows. During the first and second windows of application, the FIVB received 55 development projects.

Of these, 50 projects have already been approved: 24 coach support projects, 25 volleyball equipment projects and 1 knowledge transfer project. Additionally, there are 29 ongoing coach projects from 2020 that were suspended because of COVID-19 and are now resuming.

The last FIVB Commission meetings will conclude on 11 February with the Volleyball Council meeting.
