TOKYO, Japan, August 4, 2021 - FIVB President Dr
Ary S. Graça F° today had the pleasure of
welcoming International Olympic Committee (IOC)
President Thomas Bach and other IOC leaders to
the exceptional Tokyo 2020 volleyball venue,
Ariake Arena.
Dr Ary S. Graça F° was accompanied by Mr.
Cristobal Marte Hoffiz and Mr. Aleksandar
Boricic, FIVB First and Second Executive Vice
Presidents, respectively.
IOC President Bach’s visit coincided with a
sensational women’s quarterfinal match between
South Korea and Turkey – which South Korean won
in five sets – at the marvellous Ariake Arena.

Olympic Committee President, World Archery
President and IOC Member Prof. Uğur Erdener also
attended the quarterfinal match-up.
IOC President Bach was able to meet with two
members of the Japan men’s national volleyball
team, Yuji Nishida and Yūki Ishikawa, during his
visit. President Bach talked with the players
about their experience of participating in the
Olympic Games, to which both Nishida and
Ishikawa expressed their pride at being able to
represent Japan at a home Games.
He also met with Olympic Games Sydney 2000 gold
medallist and Serbian volleyball legend Vladimir
Grbić, in addition to Alejandrina Mireya Luis
Hernandez, a three-time Olympic gold medallist
and legendary Cuban volleyball player.
