FIVB Volleyball Foundation Board holds historic first meeting in Portugal

PORTO, Portugal, November 16, 2024.- The FIVB Volleyball Foundation Board held its first ever meeting in Portugal following the opening day of the 39th FIVB World Congress. This marked a significant step in the organization’s aim to serve the world through volleyball.

At the meeting, the Board approved the principle of resource and coaching provision support for two projects: the Brahmaputra Volleyball League and the Githurai Kimbo Volleyball Academy. The Foundation also approved the allocation of broadcasting resources to the Brahmaputra Volleyball League and support for a scholarship programme at the Githurai Kimbo Volleyball Academy, which aims to empower members of the community through nurturing talent, imparting life skills, and offering quality education.

The Board also appointed one new member, four honorary members and an ambassador.

Inclusive of the Executive members, the Board and its supporting members now comprises:

- Dr Ary S. Graça F°, President of the FIVB Volleyball Foundation

- Fabio Azevedo, Vice President of the Volleyball Foundation

- Yuji Saeki, Volleyball Foundation Board Member, President & CEO of Mikasa

- Charles Joye, Volleyball Foundation Board Member and Secretary

- Giuseppe Manfredi, Volleyball Foundation Board Member and President of the Italian Volleyball Federation

- Alejandrina Mireya Luis, Volleyball Foundation Honorary Board Member and Ambassador, and a three-time Olympic and two-time volleyball World Champion 

- Her Excellency Sheikha Hind bint Hamad Al Thani, Volleyball Foundation Honorary Board Member, Vice Chairperson and CEO of Qatar Foundation

- Her Royal Highness Princess Ayah bint Faisal of Jordan, Volleyball Foundation Honorary Board Member, President of the Jordan Volleyball Federation and Jordan Olympic Committee Board Member

- Nick Clarry, Volleyball Foundation Honorary Board Member, CVC Managing Partner

President of the Volleyball Foundation Ary Graça reiterated the importance of the Foundation’s mission, stating:

“Together, we showcase the power of volleyball to transform communities around the world. We show how volleyball can open new doors, challenge social divisions, and promote well-being and healthier lifestyles”.

Reflecting on the event’s importance, President Graça explained:

“My sincere thanks and best regards go to all of you for joining the Board of the Foundation. You are all here thanks to your valuable knowledge and experience, and it is a big job we are doing”.

The news of this milestone meeting and its achievements was shared with the FIVB World Congress on its second day, following a celebratory first day of the global event.
