Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, August 5, 2014 – The National Volleyball Federation of Haiti received the donation of one thousand of balls as part of the development initiatives put in practice by the International Volleyball Federation (FIVB) and NORCECA Confederation.

The FIVB and NORCECA have been working closely to impulse the expansion of volleyball in Haiti by promoting the practice of the sport among children and creating better conditions for young and up and coming players.

Milagros Cabral, the former captain of the women’s Dominican National Team and currently Sports Director in Santo Domingo for the Ministry of Sports, presented the donation to a delegation from Haiti who crossed the border that divides the two countries to be present in the activity held in the Volleyball Complex at the Olympic Center in the Dominican Republic capital.

Cabral, who has been working in collaboration with FIVB and NORCECA, expressed her satisfaction for the opportunity to contribute to the evolution of volleyball in Haiti.

“The National Federation of Haiti is committed to massify the sport of volleyball in all the regions of the country working with the childhood and the youth,” Cabral said.

“On behalf of FIVB President Dr. Ary S. Graça F° and NORCECA President Cristobal Marte Hoffiz we have the honor to present this significant donation that I am sure will receive an optimal use by the volleyball authorities of Haiti,” Cabral added.

Teams from Haiti have been traveling recently to the Dominican Republic for friendly matches with different universities and local clubs as part of the development program of NORCECA for National Federations Category 1 and 2.

Paola Diewdonne Jean, delegate of the Haitian Volleyball Federation who was accompanied by several players of both genders, expressed the gratitude to FIVB and NORCECA for the donation.

“The Haiti National Federation is so grateful for this wonderful equipment assistance that will go a long way in developing the game of volleyball in Haiti,” Diewdonne said. “Once again we thank the presidents of FIVB and NORCECA for their invaluable efforts in favor of our country.”

On his recent trip to Haiti, President Graça and Marte Hoffiz participated in the inauguration of the Sport for Hope Centre, whose construction was made possible through donations from NORCECA Confederation, the International Olympic Committee as well as international sports federations and National Olympic Committees.
