FIVB
introduces new National Federation
categorisation assessment
February 9, 2026.- Aligned with the FIVB Strategic Vision 2032, the
FIVB is introducing an updated National Federation Categorisation
assessment. This initiative builds on the important work already
being carried out by National Federations and reflects the FIVB’s shared
ambition to strengthen governance, sustainability and long-term
development pathways worldwide.
The
new NF Categorisation is a development-focused self-assessment
designed to help federations understand their current
position, identify opportunities for growth and plan strategically
for the future. It is not an audit or ranking, but a constructive
tool based on transparency, partnership and continuous improvement.
Replacing the system introduced in 2012, the updated model reflects
the modern realities of sport. It incorporates key pillars including
good governance, integrity, sustainability and strategic planning,
while respecting the diversity of National Federations across
different contexts and regions.
By
providing a clear picture of each federation’s strengths and
development priorities, the NF Categorisation enables the FIVB to
offer tailored support and incentives that align with each
federation’s ambitions and capacity. Through this support, the FIVB
hopes to empower federations to further develop athletes, engage
communities, attract partners and build sustainable
structures – ultimately strengthening volleyball at every level,
from grassroots to elite competition.
Speaking about the initiative, FIVB President Fabio Azevedo said;
“National Federations are a cornerstone of the FIVB Strategic Vision
2032, and their empowerment is one of the FIVB’s key priorities. I
am pleased to say that with the new NF Categorisation, we are taking
concrete steps to drive this vision forward and support federations
on their journey to strengthen the sport globally. We are grateful
for all the work that National Federations do to support volleyball
players globally, and we look forward to continuing to support them
in that.”
To
guide federations through the process, the FIVB will provide
practical resources, including a recorded video which can be found here,
a detailed presentation explaining the objectives, structure and
process of the self-assessment. |
