First tandems crowned in Puerto Rico National Beach Tournament
SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, February 5, 2018 – The first weekend of
the Youth National Beach Volleyball Tournament had an excellent
level of competition at Ocean Park.
Sunday’s action included 46 matches in both genders. The
competition format foresees a best-of-three final with one-set
matches for the eliminatory phase.
Alejandro De la Cruz and Ian Vásquez defeated Ian Terrassa and
Omar Pita 22-20, 21-0 in the boys’ U16.
The second set was cancelled when one of the players of Terrassa/Pita
tandem suffered from leg cramps.
Adriana Báez and Valeria Flores overcame Mariana Feliciano and
Carolina Aviles in three well fought sets to claim the 19-21,
24-22, 15-11 victory among the girls.
Meanwhile, Alejandra Sol and Isabela Vivoni took the victory in
the girls’ U14 with a 21-13, 21-19 victory over Stephanie Rondon
and Ana Camila Rivera. The boys’ U14 crown went to Miguel
Figueroa and Nicolás Gonzalez who prevailed over Yadiel Delgado
and Ramón Miranda 21-16, 21-17.
“We encourage all beach volleyball players from all over the
island to register and participate in the action for the two
remaining weeks,” said national coach and event director Alexis
Feliciano. “We had a good environment at the beach but we have
to continue working hard.”
Humberto Pagán Moreno, beach volleyball director of the Puerto
Rican Volleyball Federation praised the support from athletes,
parents and relatives for the first two days of competition.
“The FPV Is pleased with the support and we are going to
continue working hard for beach volleyball,” Pagan Moreno said.
“All players are invited to register and come to Ocean Park next
weekend.”
The event continues next Saturday and Sunday with actions at the
U18 class in both genders. Teams must be present at Ocean Park
for the mandatory meeting at 7:30 AM. |
