Five CAZOVA prizes for MVP Kame
KRALENDIJK, Bonaire, June 24, 2018 – Sigourney Kame completely
dominated the closing ceremony with five individual awards after
leading Suriname to the gold medal in the inaugural CAZOVA
(Caribbean Zonal Volleyball Association) Under-23 Women’s
Championship here tonight at the Jorge Nicholas Sports Hall,
Bonaire.
The captain, who began the competition with a tournament-high 24
points in their opening match against Curacao on Friday night,
was voted Top Scorer, Best Server, No. 2 Outside Hitter, Best
Digger and also picked up the leading prize as the Most Valuable
Player (MVP).
Champions Suriname actually ended up with seven of the 12
individual awards as Xiony Kidjo was adjudged Best Libero and
Farizada Kurban was the Best Setter.
Silver-medallists Curacao collected four prizes as Anais
Conradus was the Best No. 1 Outside Hitter, Giany Hooi, Best
Receiver, Jewengely Hart, Best Opposite Hitter, and their
captain Sharneska Esclodina was the Best Blocker 1.
The other award was the Best Blocker 2 and it went to Danielle
Christian from bronze-medallists United States Virgin Islands (USVI).
Suriname were unbeaten from their four matches in the three-day
straight round-robin competition, while Curacao were triumphant
three times, once more than USVI and twice more than Aruba.
Bonaire, the youngest team in the tournament with no players
over the age of 17, did not win a set in only their third
competition at this level.
It was the first time that they ever hosted an international
tournament and CAZOVA president Mushtaque Mohammed presented
Gisette Emer, vice-president of their volleyball federation,
with a plaque to recognize their tremendous effort during the
closing ceremony.
