For the first time in Varadero night beach volleyball
VARADERO, Cuba, May 10, 2019 - With the debut in Varadero of
night beach volleyball, the opening of the pool play in the
fourth phase of the Norceca Circuit concluded with undefeated
records for the two couples of Cuba and Canada, one of the
United States and that of El Salvador.
Three-time winners of this season Maylen Deliz-Leila Martinez
(CUB-1) started with an easy victory over Mannika Charles-Naomi
Buckner, of the Virgin Islands, 2-0 (21-15, 21-9) and without
much difficulty against Allanis Navas- María González, of Puerto
Rico 2-0 (21-16, 21-15).
The Puerto Rican duo scored a victory against Guatemala's Paola
Alvarado and Estefanie Bethancourt 2-0 (21-11, 21-11) and the
Central Americans themselves also won at the expense of Islas
Vírgenes 2-0 (21-10, 21-13).
In thePool B, Yanisleidis Sánchez and Lidiannis Echeverría
(CUB-2) beat Rheeza Grant and Malika Davidson (TTO) 2-0 (21-9,
21-6) and the number one seeded here Caitlin Ledoux and Geena
Urango of United States 2 -0 (21-16, 21-19) to also advance to
the quarterfinals.
Caitlin and Geena scored triumph over Carole Herve and Cristelle
Choux, of Martinique 2-0 (21-5, 21-3), which also fell to the
Trinidadians 2-0 (21-7, 21-8).
Meanwhile in Pool C key, Anna Dunn-Suen and Caleigh Cruickshank
(CAN-1) overtook Katherine Quesada and Eugenia Ramirez (CRC) 2-0
(21-15, 21-17) and Elia Machado and Lolette Rodríguez (NCA) 2-0
(21-15, 22-20).
Also today unbeaten Falyn Fonoimoana and Nicolette Martin
(USA-2) against the Central Americans Elia and Lolette 2-0
(21-8, 21-10) and Katherine and Eugenia 2-0 (21-14, 21-8), who
seem determined to climb the podium for the third time.
In Pool D the pair of Devon May and Rian Lenarduzzi (CAN-2)
accumulated two wins at the expense of Stefania Gandolfi and
Ileann Powery, Cayman Islands, 2-0 (21-10, 21-9) and Petal Smith
and Kai Wright, of Jamaica 2-0 (21-16 21-8).
On the other hand, the runners-up in the previous phase, the
Salvadoran Kathya Vasquez and Fernanda Vargas, got a pair of
wins over the Jamaicans 2-0 (21-11, 21-11) and the Cayman
Islands 2-0 (21-17, 21-9).
This Saturday the elimination matches will be completed by
groups before closing the day with the quarterfinals.
