Four countries have been crowned in Women’s Pan Am Cup

TRUJILLO, Peru, June 28, 2019 – Defending champions United States have won the Women’s Pan American Cup a record six times including five of the last seven editions of the intercontinental volleyball event.

Only the Dominican Republic, a four-time champion, have blocked the American side during that seven-year span, winning in 2014 and 2016 to add to their crowns in 2008 and 2010. The United States claimed the gold medal in 2012-13, 2015 and 2017-18 and also in 2003.

Cuba (four times) and Brazil (three times) are the only other champions in the history of the event that began in 2002.

Cuba won four of the first six editions in 2002, 2004-05 and 2007 while the South American house power won it in 2006, 2009 and 2011.

The eighteenth edition of the Pan American Cup will be played in the cities of Chiclayo and Trujillo, Peru from 6 to 14 of July with eleven teams competing.

Argentina, Canada, Dominican Republic, Cuba, Guatemala and Peru will play in Pool A while Mexico, Trinidad & Tobago, United States, Colombia and Puerto Rico will play in Pool B under a round-robin format.

The pool winners will get direct tickets to the semifinal round while the second and third placed teams of each pool will meet in crossed matches in the quarterfinals. The other teams will play for the 7 to 11 positions.

Five countries – Canada, Dominican Republic, Mexico, Puerto Rico and the United States- have participated in all the seventeen previous Pan American Cups. Argentina have missed only the 2003 edition.

The Dominican Republic have won podium positions in all but one editions (fourth place in 2012).
