SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico, March 21, 2016 – Four teams have booked
their spots to the post season at the Puerto Rican Women’s
Volleyball Superior League with 10 weeks of actions already
concluded and two more to complete the regular series schedule.
Criollas of Caguas claimed two more victories for a 17-3
win-loss recird and 51 points and need seven more points in
their last four matches to secure first place and the home court
advantage during the post season playoffs.
Leonas of Ponce are in second place with 45 points and a 16-3
record and the top two teams were joined by Indias of Mayaguez
with 36 (13-6) points and Capitalinas de San Juan with 34
(12-9).
Orientales of Humacao 28 (8-12) and Lancheras of Cataño 26
(8-12) are the leading candidates for the last two berths in the
playoffs after getting 10 and 13 valuables points, respectively,
over the past week.
Teams Gigantes de Carolina 19 (7-12) and Changas of Naranjito 15
(5-13) still have slight chances of qualifying but need a hot
streak in the final stretch.
The quarterfinals series are scheduled to start on April 7 with
the six teams divided into two pools of three sides. Pool A will
consist of teams placed in first, third and sixth, while Pool B
will be composed by the teams that finish second, fourth and
fifth. The top two teams from each pool, following a round
robin, will move to the semifinals.
Andrea Drews of Mayaguez leads all the scorers with 369 points,
followed by Tara Muller with 352 and Shirley Ferrer with 345.
Drews is also tops in attacks with 323.
Jetzabel del Valle is the best blocker with 72 and Stephanie
Enright leads in serves with 29 aces. Xaimara Colon is the best
libero and leads in digs with 438. |
