Four teams tussle for one spot from Group D

 

GROS ISLET, St Lucia,   August 11, 2017 - Four teams- Anguilla, St Maarten, St Martin  and St Lucia, go after one spot when Group D of the NORCECA Zone of the FIVB  World Championships Qualifiers  round for teams in the Eastern Caribbean Volleyball Association (ECVA),  serves off  at the Beausejour Indoor facility, Saturday, August 12.

 

The mission of all four teams is to head to book that ticket to the Inter - Continental Championships in Colorado Springs, USA next month.

 

Getting to the next phase was the pull factor for all four teams’ preparations as expressed by the respective head coaches.

 

Justus Connor- Anguilla:  “Getting to Colorado, that is the biggest incentive we are using to motivate us and hopefully we can live up to those expectations…. We hope to play well, as we have a couple senior players and hopefully they can come up to their potential”.

 

Connor said that despite not getting the desired amount of practice sessions, his team is in St Lucia to compete.

 

Thierry Stephen- St Martin: “All of are here for the same purpose, that is to qualify to go to Colorado… We have been preparing for the tournament for quite some time...”

 

Stephen noted that his team’s strength is the teamwork which exists among them .The St Martin head coach expects that the other three opponents have the same ambitions of winning, hence he foresees a very competitive tournament.

 

Dimitri Beauperthy- St Maarten: “We see ourselves as our only competition… We expect to be in the last game on Sunday and winning as well”.

 

Continuing his team’s intent to go all the way in the tournament, Beauperthy stated, “Our boys are prepared mentally, physically… I think we are ready once we stay to the plan, I think we are one of the better teams in the tournament”.

 

Beauperthy revealed that they were focused on gaining the first place, that they trained three times per week and were engaged in several practice matches.

 

 Terry Verdant – St Lucia: “We hope to be the winners and get the chance to go to the next round- the inter- continental championships as we have trained hard”.

 

“We are looking to be so dominant, that we are aiming at winning all our matches 3 luv”, Verdant projected.

 

Verdant said that with St Lucia playing faster Volleyball, which he believes will work in his team’s favour.
