Fourth in a Row for Dominican Women at CACSO Games

 

SANTO DOMINGO, Dominican Republic - Dominican Republic won their fourth consecutive women’s Volleyball gold medal at the Central American Games held in Veracruz, Mexico.

 

The 3-0 (25-19, 25-19, 25-19) victory over Puerto Rico increased their historical record to six regional championships, including the previous titles achieved in 1946, 1962, 2002, 2006 and 2010

 

The Dominicans’ historical record also includes a silver medal in 1998 and four bronzes in 1966, 1974, 1978 and 1982.

 

Dominican Brenda Castillo captured the MVP honors. Castillo was distinguished as the Most Valuable Player, Best Defender, Best Reception and Best Libero.   

 

Cuba won the women’s bronze medal by prevailing in a five-setter against Mexico (24-26, 25-20, 25-17, 22-25, 15-13).

 

 Melissa Vargas, the top scorer of the tournament with 129 points, was the most effective player of the match with a match-high 26 points for Cuba.

 

Venezuela clinched the fifth place with a victory over Colombia in five sets (36-34, 21-25, 25-15, 20-25, 15-13).

 

The Willis Sisters, Angela and Verania wrote the final page of their career defending the national colors of Costa Rica by helping their side in the 3-1 (25-19, 25-13, 17-25, 25-18) victory over Trinidad & Tobago for the seventh position.
