France defeats Canada in final pool match of VNL
BRASILIA, Brazil, June 30, 2019 - France took the win today 3-0
(25-22, 28-26, 25-23) over Canada in both teams’ final pool play
match of Volleyball Nations League in Brazil.
Canada started off the weekend on a strong note, beating Italy,
but fell to the top team in the tournament, Brazil, yesterday
and France today. The Canadians finish with eight wins and seven
losses. Only the top six teams will play in the VNL finals in
the USA in July.
Nick Hoag was the top scorer today with 16 points; Jean Patry
had 14 points for France. France was better in service points
5-1 and on the attack (42-36), but otherwise it was a fairly
even affair.
"We played well for most part. France played better at the end
of sets, and we made a few errors too many," said Canada’s coach
Glenn Hoag. "Our team kept their focus all tournament long,
which was really good. This competition is very hard (five
countries in five weekends), and I am very happy with the effort
the group put in. We will get some well-needed rest and regroup
for the next objective."
Canada will be competing in the men’s Olympic Qualification
Tournament in China, August 9 to 11. |
