Gatorade Guatemala BVB begins on Friday

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 18, 2013. - The Gatorade Guatemala Beach Volleyball Tournament, the third stop of the 2013 NORCECA Circuit, kicks off on Friday at Campo Marte.

A historic registration of sixteen countries distributed in 18 women teams and 20 men teams will take part of the competition in Guatemala.

Teams are divided in six pools in the women’s division and in five pools in the men’s division for the preliminary round of Friday and early Saturday. The single elimination bracket is scheduled to start on Saturday afternoon. The semifinals and finals are set on Sunday followed by the award ceremony.

Matches begin at 9:00 (local time) with Victoria Altomare/Sophie Bukovec of CAN-B against Jamie Farley/Laurie Bachler of ISV in the women’s event, while Grant O’Gorman/Samuel Pedlow of CAN-A meet Tonny Simon/Printacnique Wilson of BAH on the men’s side.

During the technical meeting, Arnaldo Sanchez, director of the event, explained the competition format.  Miguel Ramirez gave instructions about the rules of the game with special remarks about the proper behave from the players.

Men’s Pools:

Pool A: USA-A, ESA-B, NCA, PUR-B.  Pool B: PUR-A, GUA-A, USA-B, CAN-B. Pool C: MEX, CAY, GUA-B, TRI-B. Pool D: CAN-A, ESA-A, CUB, BAH. Pool E: TRI-A, DOM, HON, GUA-C.
