Gatorade Guatemala BVB pool play set to start   

GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, May 1, 2014. - The Gatorade Guatemala BVB Tournament, the second leg of the 2014 NORCECA Tour begins this Friday with pool play actions at Campo Marte in Guatemala City.

The General Technical Meeting, chaired by NORCECA Supervisor Marta Centeno de Sajche, capped the Thursday’s program which also included the preliminary inspection and the official registration of participating teams.

A total of fifteen teams in the men’s division and sixteen in the women’s field will compete for points and prize money.

Arnaldo Sanchez, Director of the Competition, announced the pool’s composition based on NORCECA’s rankings. Those teams without ranking were placed by a draw.

Four groups in each gender were composed as followed: 

Actions begin at 8:30 (local time) with Julie Gordon and Victoria Altomare of CAN-A facing Natalia Giron and Estefanie Bethancourth of GUA-C in the women’s division, and simultaneously on the men’s side, Puerto Ricans Roberto Rodriguez and Erik Haddock meet Moises Reyes and Oscar Garcia also of GUA-C.

Friday’s schedule has a total of 28 matches. Pool Play will be completed on Saturday with the top two teams of each pool moving to the championship bracket. The Semifinals and Finals are set for Sunday, followed by the Award Ceremony.

Women: Pool A: USA-A, GUA-A, HON, ESA-B; Pool B: CAN-A, ESA-A, CUB, GUA-C; Pool C: MEX, TTO, USA-B, BAR; Pool D: CRC, NCA, GUA-B, CAN-B.

Men: Pool A: USA-A, GUA-A, TTO; Pool B:  PUR, ESA, CAN-B, GUA-C; Pool C: CAN-A, LCA, CUB, USA-B; Pool D: CRC, ARU, GUA-B, NCA.
