Gigantes take semifinal lead after defeating Tapatías in five sets
AGUASCALIENTES, Mexico, March 31, 2026.– In an intense matchup that
went the full five sets, Gigantes de Aguascalientes took the lead in
the 2026 MX Volleyball Professional League semifinal series with a
3-2 (25-21, 20-25, 25-23, 21-25, 17-15) victory over Tapatías at the
Poliforum Morelos.
The
match turned into a fierce battle that extended to the maximum five
sets. Gigantes took the early initiative by winning the first set,
but Tapatías responded quickly to level the match in the second. The
home team regained the lead after edging a tight third set 25-23,
although the squad from Jalisco fought back to force a decider by
claiming the fourth set. In the fifth set, Gigantes showed greater
composure in the decisive moments to secure the 17-15 win and take
advantage in the semifinal series.
The
most valuable player of the match was Abigail Sulimoni Del Río Nua,
who led Gigantes with an outstanding offensive performance, scoring
22 points from 19 attacks, two blocks and one ace, playing a
decisive role in securing the team’s victory.
Also
standing out for the home side was Melanie Bazzana, who contributed
at the net with 10 points, including two blocks, and continues to
rank among the top blockers of the season.
For
Tapatías, Seomara Sainz once again led the offense with 21 points,
confirming her place among the tournament’s top scorers, where she
now totals 242 points this season. Alongside her, Jocelyn Urías
added seven points and continues to stand out as one of the most
effective blockers in the championship with 51 blocks, placing her
among the leaders in that category.
With
this result, Gigantes take the lead in the semifinal series, which
will continue April 4 with the return match, when Tapatías will
attempt to rally at home and determine one of the finalists of the
2026 MX Volleyball Professional league season. |
