Good day at the beach for Costa Ricans
SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, March 4, 2013 – Costa Rica’s Ingrid
Morales and Natalia Alfaro came out winners of their two matches
in the opening day of the women’s beach volleyball tournament of
the X Central American Games on Monday.
Morales/Alfaro, favorites to win the gold medal, crushed the
opposition winning both contests by overwhelming margin. They
first won 21-9, 21-5 over El Salvador’s Diana Romero and Maria
Vargas and then returned to the sand to beat Honduras’ Gina
Flores and Martha Euceda 21-4, 21-7.
Guatemala’s Ingrid Lopez and Lourdes Ramirez also prevailed in
their two outings of Monday. They first defeated Hondurans
Flores/Euceda 21-19, 21-13 and then survived a tough battle
against Nicaragua’s Elia Torrez and Swan Mendoza 22-20, 22-20.
In the men’s division, the local team of brothers Alexander and
Gilberto Villegas won 21-11, 21-9 over Honduras’ Wilfredo Vega
and Douglas Izaguirre and came back to demolish Belize’s Gustavo
Morataya and Abimael Godoy 21-8, 21-7.
Guatemala’s Andy Leonardo and Luis García also won twice on
opening day of action as they prevailed 2-1 (21-16, 15-21, 15-4)
against El Salvador’s David Vargas and Carlos Escobar and
defeated Hondurans Vega/Izaguirre 21-14, 21-16.
