Grenada eases into semis with win over St. Kitts/Nevis

ST JOHNS, Antigua, August 18, 2018 – Grenada took all of 67 minutes to depose of team St. Kitts Nevis in straight sets (25 -17, 25-21 and 25-17) in the first quarter final match of the ECVA Senior Female Competition

Grenada came out swinging, led by middle players Renisha Stafford 15 points and Sydney Ashton 13 points, they gained the advantage in overall team attack - 33 to 16.

For Team St. Kitts/Nevis Shanicia Dyer with 11 points tried to carry the fight but the overall listlessness of the St. Kitts/Nevis girls never threatened their opponents. No one else had double figures for the losers

Errors were dead even at 32 but Grenada enjoyed the edge in Aces (5-4) and in Blocks (5-3)

Coach Shawn Sea Brookes was visibly upset. “The only good thing about this performance is that it cannot get any worse. There was no energy, little effort, no communication, and no movement. This definitely the worse performance of the tournament and I am very disappointed especially since I know they can do better as they exhibited against Antigua   and French St. Maarten. If I am to take away the positive I think that we now know the level which we have to attain in order to compete at this level hence from here on the sky is the limit”, he said.

His opposite number Raphael Braithwaite was smiling for the first time in the competition.

“I am rather proud of the way our team went out there and demonstrated that they can really play. Our offence really took it to them and dominated. The defense was also good as we got in some very important blocks. Definitely I am pleased that we are going forward to play in the semis. I think this is the furthest we have reached in a long while”, he reported.

Grenada goes on to meet St. Martin in the first semifinals while St. Kitts/Nevis will decide on 5th place with St. Maarten.
