Guadeloupe starts winning in Group L
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, June 8, 2013 - Guadeloupe is off to a
winning start at the NORCECA second round Group L qualifier to
the 2014 FIVB Women’s World Championship, with a victory over
Aruba 3-0 (25-11, 25-13, 25-14).
Guadeloupe outscored Aruba with a wide advantage in all
categories, in spikes by 25-7, in blocks by 9-4 and in aces by
10-1.
The
top scorer of the match was Isabelle Acina with 12 points,
including 3 aces, for the winning side.
“Having a win from the beginning is very important and we are
happy with the good result shown so quickly. This was the first
time for us playing against Aruba and we didn’t know what to
expect” said Isabelle Acina, Guadeloupe’s captain.
On
the other hand, Jackie Toussaint said to understand her team’s
nervousness “our players are young and this is only our second
international tournament. We’ll analyze our mistakes for the
next match.”
Jean-Louis, Head Coach of Guadeloupe indicated “Aruba has a lot
of potential and I know they will improve. I really want to
congratulate my team because we almost didn’t make it to the
tournament and we presented only nine players, their effort paid
off. This is only the beginning and we must face each match
point by point.”
Aruba’s Coach, Igmar Ogenia said “I agree with Jackie but I want
to add that Guadeloupe is a much more experienced squad than
ours. The girls weren’t able to get in the rhythm of the match
as our passing was deficient and I hope things can change for us.” |
