Guatemala & Nicaraguan men advance to beach volleyball

BELIZE CITY, Belize, August 17, 2019 - The
Nicaragua’s and Guatemala’s No.1 men’s teams both secured
their berth in the semifinals in the second day of the XIX
Central American beach volleyball championships in Belize on
Saturday morning.
Nicaragua’s Ruben Mora Romero and Danny Lopez Alvarado
enjoyed their second win against Guatemala’s Edgar Maldonado
Espina and Andre Nuyens Liska: 21-7, 21-13. Honduras’ Irvin
Reyes David and Manuel Serrano Avalos won the first set:
21-17, but Mora/Lopez rallied to take the next two sets:
21-9, 15-10.
Guatemala’s Andy Leonardo Blanco and Luis Garcia Betancourt
secured their berth in the semifinals by their third win
over Costa Rica’s Victor Alpizar Campos and Sebastian
Valenciano Gonzalez who had won the first set: 22-20. But
the Guatemalans never said die, toughing it out to take the
next two sets: 21-19, 15-8.

Experience prevailed over youthful enthusiasm in Nicaragua’s
Swan Mendoza and Lolette Rodriguez Saunders’ 21-14, 21-14
win over Costa Rica’s Valeria Valenciano Gonzalez and
Camille Villegas Gonzalez.
Belize’s Edgar Martinez and Michael Jenkins won the second
set: 21-18 against Nicaragua’s Gerson Contreras Lacayo and
Denis Lopez Ruiz, who won he first set: 21-17, and took the
third set: 15-10, handing the hosts their third loss.
