SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, August 12, 2022.-
Guatemala is aiming to win their fifth
consecutive Men’s U23 AFECAVOL Central American
title at the fifth edition of the event to take
place at the Palacio de Los Deportes of San
Salvador, El Salvador running from August 17-21.
Guatemala has dominated the event since it’s
first edition held in 2012 in Honduras, winning
four consecutive gold medals (2012, 2014, 2016,
2018). In the past edition Guatemala reached the
last day of competition already earning the gold
medal before beating Costa Rica 3-0 in their
last performance, result that handed out the
silver medal to Nicaragua and the bronze medal
to Panama.
In the history of the event, Costa Rica has won
a total of three medals, two silvers and one
bronze, Panama has two, one silver and one
bronze; Nicaragua has one silver medal, while
Honduras and El Salvador have one bronze medal
each.
Six countries will be competing in the
round-robin event that will be streamed on
Facebook Live @fesavol
, consisting of three daily matches, starting on
Wednesday 17 at 2:00pm with reigning champion
Guatemala facing Costa Rica. Belize will not be
attending the competition.
