Dominican Republic and Guatemala set two scoring records
SANTO DOMINGO, June 17, 2019 – Two new records for the highest
scoring match and highest scoring set in the history of the
Men’s Volleyball Pan American Cup were established on Monday in
the second day of actions at the fourteenth edition of the event
being held in Colima, Mexico.
The news was announced IN Santo Domingo by Roosevelt Comarazamy,
director of communications of NORCECA.
Dominican Republic outplayed Guatemala in five sets (26-38,
25-21, 25-19, 19-25, 15-13) for a total of 236 points between
the two teams breaking the previous record of 235 points when
México edged Colombia (32-30, 25-20, 25-27, 23-25, 15-13) on
June 22, 2016.
The team of Guatemala edged the Dominican Republic 38-36 in the
first set of their match for a total of 74 points disputed.
It broke the old mark of 68 points established on August 12 of
2014 when Argentina prevailed 35-33 against Venezuela in the
second set of their match.
The record was tied the following year when Brazil outscored
Argentina 35-33 also in the second set of their contest on
August 17, 2015.
Sets of high scores have been frequent in the first two days of
the Pan American Cup. On opening day on Sunday Cuba defeated
Argentina 32-30 in the first set of their match while Puerto
Rico edged Perú 30-28 in the third set. |
