Guatemala beats Belize in straight sets
MANAGUA, Nicaragua, October 31, 2019 - Guatemala (2-1)
achieved its second triumph in the XIII Men's U19 Central
American Championship by beating Belize 3-0 (25-14, 25-15,
25-19), which does not have triumphs after three outings.
Francisco Gamboa with 10 points and José Villagrán with 9
were the best for Guatemala, while Thomas Garbutt with 8 and
Captain Kaelen Ingram with 7, stood out for Belize.
Guatemala led the attacks 24-16 and services 10-2, with 6-6
in blocks. Belize gave 35 points by mistakes, while the
winners committed 24.
The coach of Guatemala, Luis Fernando Castañeda said that
“it was not a great game for us, we hope to resume the pace
tomorrow, we got a victory and the five points that was the
goal, we continue in the fight to be among the medals, but
we must improve several situations”.
"In these categories it is difficult to maintain a good pace
with the boys, the psychological part is complicated, they
have to be strong mentally to be well in all games, so the
lack of concentration affects us many times," said Castañeda.
Guatemala will play Honduras on Friday at 5:00 p.m., while
Belize will face El Salvador at 3:00 p.m.
