SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, August 18, 2015. - Guatemala defeated
Nicaragua in straight sets (25-8, 25-15, 25-18) in the opening
match of day three of the XI Girls’ U-18 Central American
Championship.
Nicaragua was controlled over the net with Guatemala’s spiking
who scored 30 points against 12 from Nicaragua, Guatemala was
also better in aces 11-2.
In the blocking category, both teams were similar, four to three
in favor of Guatemala; Guatemala scored thru 30 Nicaraguan
unforced errors and Guatemala committed 24.
Leonela Carcache, captain of Nicaragua said about the match “we
lacked concentration, we lost but we will continue forward and
we must improve our defense”.
Guatemala’s captain Carmen Gomez said about her team “today we
came out looking to win, we failed in serves, we had unforced
errors and we have to improve this”.
Edgar Callejas head coach of Guatemala said “the first set was
spectacular for us, we knew that the team was making errors and
that our opponent began to fight, which even the actions and put
us in problems”.
Claudia Noguera coach of Nicaragua made her analysis “they
played different tan yesterday, they had better disposition in
doing things well, we knew today wasn’t going to be easy because
technically speaking, Guatemala is a very good team and if we
wanted to perform well, we needed to give all we have”.
On Wednesday, Guatemala will face El Salvador and Nicaragua will
meet the home team at 8pm. |
