Guatemala overcame El Salvador in straight Sets
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, October 11, 2014. - Host Guatemala
overcame El Salvador in straight sets 25-13, 25-21, 25-20 at the
Women’s XVIII Central American Cup at Teodoro Palacios Flores
Gymnasium.
Guatemala won the first set without complications but in the
next two sets El Salvador limited Guatemala’s outside offensive
forcing them to use another strategy to take control again.
Guatemala improved their record to 4-1 and adds 21 points; El
Salvador dropped their record to 0-5 and has 2 points.
The home team out-blocked El Salvador 10-5, in kills they
weren’t much superior 30-29 as well as in aces 3-2. Guatemala
scored via 32 errors from El Salvador while producing 18 of
their own.
Outside hitter Blanca Recinos and opposite Natalia Giron scored
10 points apiece leading Guatemala’s scorers. Captain Adriana
Flores topped El Salvador with 13 points.
Guatemalan captain Diana Arias said “our union as a team shows,
anyone can do the job as we trust one another. For tomorrow I
expect the match to be intense and a good spectacle, we must
stick to our strategy to win”.
“We continue to lack determination, our defense was weak and we
have to work together as a team to obtain results” said captain
Adriana Flores of El Salvador.
Coach David Aldana of Guatemala congratulated El Salvador
because they have come from less to more “they pushed hard
yesterday against Nicaragua and today they did it again, we were
in trouble in the second set and that’s why we made some
adjustments. We used more our middle blockers because El
Salvador contained our outside hitters. Our middle blockers
performed efficiently today, Aury Alvarez was very fast and
precise, as well as Estefanie Bethancourt. We expect a well
disputed match against Costa Rica and we really have nothing to
lose, we are already among the medalists and hopefully we can
work on their faults”.
“We always aspire for more and I believe we’ve been battling
strong. Guatemala took advantage of our weak blocking in the
middle; I am satisfied that we were able to counterattack on the
ends, but we need to work harder” said coach Alexander Polanco.
