Guatemala remains undefeated at AFECAVOL U23
PANAMA CITY, Panama, July 28, 2016 – Guatemala edged Nicaragua
3-2 (23-25, 25-18, 18-25, 25-14, 19-17) to remain as the only
undefeated team at the U23 Men’s Central American Championship
taking place at José “Beto” Remón Gymnasium of Panama.
The victory sits Guatemala atop of the standings with a 3-0
win-loss record, while Nicaragua dropped to 2-2 with the loss.
The match lasted 2 hours and 7 minutes and Nicaragua held the
advantage in the spikes (62-58) and blocking (10-9) categories,
but couldn’t win the important points to close the door to the
Guatemalans who came from behind in the tie-breaker to claim the
victory.
Wagner Chacon stood out as the main offensive weapon for
Guatemala with 26 points, assisted by Carlos López and Erik
Flores with 16 and 15 points, respectively. Nicaragua’s
Christofer Lazo and Byron Hernández finished with 21 points
each, and Denis Garcia and Esteban Icaza had 12 points apiece in
the loss. |
