Guatemala shows power over Aruba
GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, June 9 2013. -Guatemala released
their power defeating Aruba in straight sets (25-4, 25-10,
25-12) at the NORCECA second-round Group L finished held on
Sunday morning at Alfonso Gordillo Gymnasium.
The home team executed with dominance by 42-7 in spikes and 12-1
in service points. Guatemala finishes undefeated the preliminary
phase and clashes against Guadeloupe in the final match on
Sunday night.
Natalia Giron and Andrea Diaz were the top scorers for Guatemala
with 12 and 11 points respectively.
“Our blocking was well organized and the team’s structure was
reinforced. Guatemala was able to play our game” indicated Diana
Arias.
Jackie Toussaint said “Guatemala has more experience than Aruba,
our players are very young and we lack of international
exposure”.
David Aldana, Guatemala’s Head Coach said “we gave a rest to our
older players because Aruba presented a young team and this was
the occasion to give our younger players a chance to compete.
Aruba defended well.”
Igmar Ogenia said his team has shown improvement, “with every
match we’ve done better we hope to win the third position.
Experience is very important in sports which Guatemala showed
today.
