SAN SALVADOR, El Salvador, August 31, 2015. - Guatemala showed
great power over Panama 3-0 (25-8, 25-9, 25-11) at the Men’s
U-21 Central American Championship at Gymnasium Adolfo Pineda of
San Salvador.
Guatemala had total control of the actions while Panama engaged
in numerous errors. Guatemala improved in power in every aspect
of the game, with a well-structured performance, preventing
Panama to execute. Guatemala won easily.
Guatemala is unbeaten with a 3-0 win-loss record and a total of
14 points, while Panama has 2-2 record and 7 points.
Every category was dominated with great advantage by Guatemala,
kills (29-15), blocks (9-6) and aces (6-0). Guatemala scored on
31 errors of Panama and committed only 7.
Opposite Erik Flores and Outside Hitter Wagner Chacon were
Guatemala’s top scorers with 12 and 10 points respectively. For
Panama, Opposite Uriel Batista led with 7 points.
Captain Erik Flores of Guatemala said “we minimized our errors
and took advantage of those from Panama; they have good height
but we were able to neutralize them. What’s important of today’s
win is adding 5 points and moving to first position”.
Panama’s captain Uriel Batista said “I really don’t know what
happened; we couldn’t concentrate, we failed in everything”.
Coach Reider Lucas of Guatemala expressed “we studied Panama
well, their virtues and defects and we performed serenely. My
guys weren’t nervous. The tournament hasn’t finish, there’s more
to come and I wish Panama well”.
Horacio Angulo coach of Panama said “Guatemala’s system was
powerful, they attacked on the ends during the first and second
sets; and then in the middle and it also worked well for them,
they played with structure. We were asleep the whole entire
match, our defense and offense were poor, my libero and opposite
didn’t perform as they have been in previous games”. |
