Guatemala stops Honduras in three sets
Managua, November 1, 2019.- Guatemala (3-1) won 3-0 (25-13,
25-19, 25-13) to Honduras, taking the undefeated and fully
engaged in the fight for medals , on the penultimate day of
the XIII Central American Men's Volleyball Championship U19.
In the first set Guatemala came out with strength and
determination, getting an initial advantage of more than 10
points, which was impossible to recover from Honduras (3-1)
who had three straight wins.
Francisco Gamboa with 14 points led Guatemala, with 11 by
Carlos Caballeros. Alejandro Lobo, from Honduras contributed
11 points. Guatemala was better in attack 43-14, 4-3 in
block and 6-3 in service, with 22 errors from Honduras by 25
of its opponents.
Caballeros, captain of Guatemala, said: “The service helped
us too much and attitude with which we went out today. We
had already practiced a lot of service in training and it
turned out, as well as the psychological part ”.
Gamboa said that "the best thing was the attitude we
maintained in the game, because if it were not the support
we give each other we could not achieve, the mood we had
helped us a lot, because we were determined to give
everything."
The coach of Guatemala, Luis Castañeda: “We talked with the
boys that we had to go out with a good mentality, be
attentive to the game, Honduras is playing nice and because
all the rivals are strong and we could not trust. The boys
entered with a lot of attitude and thank God we were given
the victory. ”
Guatemala
closes the tournament against El Salvador at 2:00 p.m. and
Honduras is measured in Costa Rica at 4:00 p.m.
