Guatemala wins and secures silver
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, July 20, 2019 - Guatemala defeated
Nicaragua 3-0 (25-17, 25-14, 25-18) and secured the second
position of the championship of the 18th Central American
Women's U-20 Championship, which takes place in the Gym # 2
Jorge Galeano from the city of Tegucigalpa, Honduras.
The Guatemalans with the victory secured the Silver medal, and
were waiting for what happens in the game between Belize and
Honduras, which if given an adverse score for the Honduran 0-3
would lead the Guatemalans to the title. Honduras needs to win a
set to secure the championship.
The attack on the net of the Guatemalans was concentrated in 3
players, Jimena Castellanos with 11 points, Frida Chavarría and
Laura Cortez with 10 each. Nicaragua attacked with Masiel Brenes
and Norma Brenes, who scored 9 points each.
Nicaragua committed 23 unforced errors, while Guatemala made 21.
The Guatemalans were superior in the attacks on the net with an
advantage of 44 points over 25 of the Nicaraguans. Guatemala
made 6 aces and Nicaragua only 1. And in blocks they kept 2 each
team.
Nicaragua remained in the last position of the tournament
without achieving a victory. |
