ANAGUA, Nicaragua, December 9, 2015 – Guatemala picked up their
second win at the XVI U20 Women’s Central American Championship
by defeating El Salvador 3-0 (25-23, 25-19, 25-18) in day three
at Polideportivo España.
Despite the pressure from the Salvadorians especially in the
first two sets, Guatemala relied on the attack (35-22). The
Guatemalans led in blocking 7-4 but the losers dominated in aces
8-4. El Salvador made 29 errors to 26 by Guatemala.
Once again Captain Maria Renee Garcia was the best for Guatemala
with 15 points while Sabrina Salcedo added 10. For El Salvador,
Gabriela Funes had 14 points and Marcela Soriano added 8.
William Fernandez, coach of Guatemala: “It was a complicated
victory. EL Salvador studied us very well and found our
weaknesses and we congratulate them. The important thing is that
we got five points even though we are not playing well.”
Dany Calderon, coach of El Salvador: “It was not going to be
easy against Guatemala. We tried to study them the most we
could, even forcing them to replace one of their strongest
attackers, Kimberly Cardona, and we controlled their captain.
But we failed a little in the tactical part for the girls
execute what they were ordered to.” |
