GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, April 12, 2015 - Guatemala’s National
Volleyball Federation held its Annual Gala to recognize the
volleyball community with national medals, special awards and
the "Carlos Alfonso Gordillo" National Award.
The ceremony presided over by Enrique Santis Berrios, President
of the National Federation of Guatemala and members of his
Executive Committee, was held on April 12, institutionalized as
"National Volleyball Day" in the presence of Ing. Marta Centeno
de Sajche, AFECAVOL President and NORCECA and FIVB Vice
President, as well as Saul Mendez, representative of the
Guatemalan Olympic Committee.
The General Assembly awarded the "Carlos Alfonso Gordillo"
National Award 2015 to Enrique Santis Berrios, who in December
concludes his second four-year term as President of the National
Federation.
"I am proud to receive this award, which is accompanied by many
efforts and sacrifices. I have had the full support and
understanding of my family to devote my time to volleyball.
I appreciate the support of the General Assembly to perform my
duties in favor of this great project, in which I’ve achieved a
great deal" said Santis Berrios, who received the award from
Mrs. Luz Maria Gordillo Solórzano widow of the late Carlos
Alfonso Gordillo.
The 2015 National Medal was awarded to three national teams -
the U-23 men's team, for winning the Central American
Championship and qualifying to the age-group Pan American Cup,
and to both the women’s and men’s senior teams for their results
in the qualifiers to the FIVB World Championships, as well as
second and third place, respectively, in the Central American
Men’s and Women's Championship.
Special awards were presented to Walda Maldonado Lam, as
International Referee of the Year, Jose Aroldo Gutiérrez, as
National Referee of the Year, Diana Arias and Andy Leonardo as
Players of the Year, while Blanca Recinos and Erick Garrido
received the BVB Player of the Year award.
Other awards included the Outstanding Team in Guatemala’s
Volleyball History to Escuintla Trigueros, the Association of
the Year was handed to Guatemala, Juan Pablo Castaneda of
Suchitepéquez received the Coach of the Year award and Juan
Pablo Yela of Guatemala, the Manager of the Year award. |
