Guereca and Caribali tie records of U23 Cup
LIMA, Peru, August 15, 2018 – Mexican Uxue Guereca and Colombian
Valerín Carabali entered in the record books of the U23 Women’s
Pan American Cup in the first day of actions of the fourth
edition of the event at Manuel Bonilla Coliseum of Lima on
Tuesday.
Guereca scored 35 points to lead Mexico to a five-set victory
over Colombia 3-2 (23-25, 25-14, 16-25, 25-18, 15-9), tying the
record established in 2016 by Peruvian Angela Leyva
against Argentina on September 21.
Meanwhile, Carabali compiled 9 blocks in the losing effort to
tie the mark shared by Dominican Gaila Gonzalez (2014 against
Cuba) and Argentinean Claudia Herrera (twice in 2016 against
Peru).
NORCECA’s Communication Director Roosevelt Comarazamy made the
announcement in Santo Domingo.
Comarazamy said Guereca is the sixth player to reach the
30-point plateau in the history of the U23 Pan American Cup.
