Haiti off loads Dominica to strike for gold
ST GEORGE , Grenada, June 23- Haiti redeemed themselves
following their loss to Panama to oust a determined Dominica
outfit 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-23 ) in match five of Group N of
the Second Round of the NORCECA Women’s 2014 World
Championships, here at the Laborie Indoor Facility.
The win assured Haiti a shot at the gold medal, as well as a
place in the third round of the qualifiers.
Haiti completed their three matches in the preliminary round
with a 2-1 win /loss, while Dominica ended with a 1-2 win / loss
effort.
The Haitians’ scoring was led by Jally Salomon who reeled in ten
points, while Lourdia Pelicier contributed nine.
On the Dominica side, Captain Anna Maria Xavier scored eleven
points and Zahido Henry – ten points.
The Haitians were better at blocks, serves, and sets, while the
Dominicans were superior in spikes, digs and receptions.
With a place in the final and a berth to the next phase of the
tournament, Coach of Haiti- Frederic Francois said his team had
attained one its major objectives, thus far.
“We are happy, because of our objectives was to get to the
next round… We have to now work hard tonight in the final to win
the tournament … This is now our new focus”, Francois stated.
Haiti takes on Panama in the championship match which shuts down
Group N, and also puts the lid on the Women’s end of the
qualifiers.
Before them this evening, Dominica and Grenada meet in the
bronze medal match. |
