Haiti stops Grenada in straight sets
St GEORGE , Grenada , June 22, 2013- Haiti wasted little time in
trumping Grenada 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-17) in the second match
of Group N of the NORCECA women’s
Second Round of the 2014 World Championships at the Laborie
Indoor Facility.
Captain Carline Pierre and Rose Mileine Louis, each scored nine
points for Haiti, while Grenada’s topscorer was Renisha
Staffiord with eight points.
A smiling coach of Haiti- Fredric Francois revealed that they
began the match with some caution, as they knew very little
about their opponents.
“ When we saw we were a better team than Grenada, we stepped up
our play but tried to keep it simple and not make too many
errors”, Francois recalled.
Francois though is looking forward to a stronger contest when
his team faces off with Panama in match three, which is the
first of the evening’s agenda.
The head coach said he is wary of the Panamanians, since they
have been playing more consistently at a higher level than his
team.
Meanwhile, Haiti’s captain- Carline Pierre said she and her team
mates are cherishing the opportunity to compete at this phase as
it will augur well for the development of Volleyball in their
country.
But for losing coach- Adam Lafeuillee, his team has to regroup
for their next match versus Dominica.
“ I am hoping that they can put themselves in a bubble as all of
them have a specific role as I believe that we still have what
it takes to win the tournament”, Lafeuillee stated.
“ We played about forty- percent of our ability, which cost us
the match…Our biggest problem was the girls were not focused,
therefore everything they have learnt tactically just went out
of the window ”, Lafeuillee said.
The win by Haiti put them level on five points with Panama, who
also recorded a 3-0 thumping of Dominica in the opening match.
At the other end, both Grenada and Dominica are pointless. They
meet in the night’s capper. |
