BRIDGETOWN, Barbados, December 8, 2015 - Haiti scored an
exciting win over host Barbados to cap an exciting Day Two of
the 10th CAZOVA junior championships at the Wildey Gym in
Bridgetown.
In a slug fest between two high jumping attackers, Shonte Seale
of Barbados and opponent Solaida Pierre, Haiti took the
thrilling match 26-24, 15-25, 25-14, 25-22 to take early control
of Group D. The Haitian team will meet former queens Trinidad
and Tobago in a decisive match on Day Three.
Barbados will meet T&T the next day with the desperation of
needing to win a match before playoffs commence on Friday.
Although Deandra Small with 13 kills gave latter support to
Seale's 11 kills and four stiff blocks, Barbados had no answer
for the attack of Pierre who slammed 16 kills. Djoulissa
Mathe's 11 points and 10 from Juliette Bayol kept Haiti in
charge even when the Bajans made a late charge in the fourth
set.
Haiti's coach Osse Jean Francois was full of praise for his
opponents and the excitement of the game. "We have been
training for five years and Barbados as a very good team gave us
a strong fight. The match was very exciting and keen and it
gave us a chance to assess the opposition and prepare for our
remaining games," said Jean Francois.
Coach of the Barbados team Patrick Oxley pointed to poor
reception which offset his team's performance. "Our passing
broke down which affected our setting and attacking. But, Haiti
played a great game. We have to go back to basics to prepare
for Trinidad and Tobago," said Oxley. |
