Happy Birthday in Mazatlan for Huerta
MAZATLAN, Mexico, September 15, 2013 – “Happy Birthday to You”
is, according to the 1998 Guinness Record Book, the most
recognized song in the English language.
A recent survey revealed that the lyrics and melody of American
siblings Patty and Mildred Hill composed in 1912 has become the
song that is sung more times daily worldwide.
Even though the tunes of “Happy Birthday to You” are well known
in Mexico, the natives of this country rather prefer singing
“Las Mañanitas” a folkloric song of an unknown author but highly
popular in the voice of the late Pedro Infante.
Their friends attending the Mazatlan Beach Volleyball Circuit
had the chance to share a good time celebrating the birthday of
Mayra Huerta, the former player who is here as NORCECA delegate
for the event. And, of course, they joined together as a chorus
to sing both themes and to cut a cake.
Huerta, who partnered with Laura Amaral to win a bronze medal at
the 1999 Pan American Games in Winnipeg, Canada and competed at
the 1996 Olympic Games in Atlanta, talked about the possibility
of participating in an International Masters Championship that
is now a work in progress.
Her desire to compete again in that kind of tournament could be
very difficult task to achieve, though.
Why?
Because yesterday, when someone had the audacity to ask her age,
Mayra fired back responding: “Today I am 23”. |
