High voltage duels to define leaders
Lima, Peru, July 25, 2019. The men's beach volleyball tournament
of the Pan American Games Lima 2019 will define the qualifiers
to the quarterfinals on Friday, with high-level duels to leave
the leaders of each group.
Pool A: Venezuela (Rolando Hernández / José Gómez) won 2-0
(21-8, 21-6) to Peru (Gabriel Vásquez/Bruno Seminario) and leads
the group with two wins, while Guatemala (Andy Leonardo/Luis
García) won 2-0 (21-19, 21-15) to Dominican Republic (Alex
Medina / William Sánchez. Venezuela will face the Dominican
Republic, Guatemala measures Peru, this Friday.
Pool B; The United States (Ian Satterfield / Mark Burik) beat
Trinidad and Tobago (Daynte Stewart/Marlon Phillip) 2-0 (21-13,
21-16).
Argentina, with Nicolás Capogroso/Julian Azaad, beat El Salvador
(Carlos Escobar/David Vargas) 2-0 (21-12, 21-12).
Argentina and the United States will define first place and the
ticket to the quarterfinals, while El Salvador and Trinidad and
Tobago will seek their first win.
Group C: Brazil (Oscar Brandao / Thiago Barbosa) beat Uruguay
2-0 (21-16, 21-14) with Mauricio Vieyto/Marco Cairus.
Sergio González/Luis Reyes, of Cuba, defeated Víctor Alpízar /
Sebastián Valenciano of Costa Rica 2-0 (21-13, 12-16).
Brazilians (2-0) need to win Cuba (1-1) to avoid a triple draw,
in case Uruguay (1-1) wins tomorrow to Costa Rica.
Group D: Juan Virgen and Lombardo Ontiveros of Mexico defeated
Aaron Nusbaum/Michael Plantiga of Canada 2-0 (21-14, 21-19).
Chile with cousins Marcos and Esteban Grimalt, defeated Danny
López/Rubén Mora, from Nicaragua 2-1 (21-19, 19-21, 15-13).
Chile has a complicated encounter against Canada to define the
first place, while Mexico measures Nicaragua trying to be second
in the group.
This Friday's games will start an hour earlier (8:00 a.m.)
because it will be the opening of the 2019 Pan American Games in
Lima. |
