Home team Grenada satisfies fans with victory over BVI

LA BORIE, Grenada, November 1,   2018 – After a very close opening game Grenada sizzled while BVI fizzled to hand the home team a straight set victory in 28-26, 25-20 and 25-11 much to the delight and pleasure of a small home crowd.

Game one could have gone BVI’s way who lost game point twice while leading at 25-24 and 26-25 due to unforced errors. Grenada gleefully accepted and never looked back.

BVI: “We faded as time went on due to the fact that our defense disappeared at the net giving the Grenadians free will. In general we suffered greatly from far too many unforced errors. This will have to improve going forward”, said Stephen Payne the head coach.

Grenada’s coach Raphael Brathwaite was not happy despite the victory. My guys got carry away and were looking for too much power hitting particularly in the first game. We settled after that and developed and good attacking rhythm with a more focused attack with very hat had very little problems as BVI had difficulty passing. Despite the victory we will have to bring a better game against St. Vincent” he warned.

On the individual score sheet it was Grenada’s Middle Blockers who stood out. Nikel John (14) and Darron Oxford (13) combine for 27 points and dominated the scoresheet.  No one for BVI got to double figure but Miguel Martin had 6 points as the top scorer.

In general Grenada led in all scoring categories 43-16 in Spikes; 8 to 4 in services and 11 to 1 in blocks. Meanwhile they benefited from 36 BVI errors while only committing 16.

Grenada next match is against one of the tournament’s favourite St. Vincent and the Grenadines. This match is expected to take place late on Match Day 2. However BVI gets the first opportunity to test the Vincie Heat in match four of pool play.
