SAN JOSE, Costa Rica, August 21, 2015.-
Honduras beat Guatemala in a thrilling comeback 22-25, 15-25,
25-20, 25-21, 15-9 at the XI Girls’ U-18 Central American
Championship.
Honduras will face Costa Rica for the Central American throne
and Guatemala still has a chance of reaching the podium when
they meet Belize in the last day of competition.

Guatemala showed superiority in spikes 47-44 and in service
points 9-6, while Honduras with a good defense held advantage
14-6 in blocking.
Middle Blocker Natahly Perez led Honduras’ offensive over the
net with 19 points, joined by the other Middle Blocker Estefany
Godoy with 18 points. For Guatemala, Outside Hitter Daniel
Tornoe and teammate Kimberly Cardona added 13 points apiece.
Guatemala’s captain Carmen Gomez said “the win was ours in the
third set but we weren’t able to seal the deal, we weren´t able
to move on. Honduras did a splendid job en the last three sets
and we lacked will and attitude”.
Rut Aguilar captain of Honduras indicated “in the first two sets
we couldn’t manage to control the actions, we felt anguished
because we were losing, in the third set we turn things around
and win the match”.
Cuban Marcos Tejeda coach of Honduras was satisfied to turn
things in their favor “it’s a good feeling, the girls performed
one hundred percent, mostly in serves, they achieved our goals.
Guatemala is one of the favorites and has a capable coaching
staff but they gave us opportunity in the third set and we took
the win”.
CoachEdgar Callejas of Guatemala said “our opponent recovered
with great defense, my team couldn’t close, they got tired and
weren’t able to perform as they usually do and the other team
overwhelmed them.
I congratulate Honduras because they overcame adversity”. |
