Honduras closes with a convincing win against El Salvador
MANAGUA, Nicaragua, June 28, 2019 - Honduras won 3-0 (25-22,
25-13, 25-21) over El Salvador, closing its participation in the
IV Central American Championship with three wins and three
defeats, with one game remaining with one game remaining for the
other teams.
The Honduran team was totally superior to the Salvadorans, who
could not rise from the bad start, being up to 10 points behind
their rivals, although they reacted at times, with gusts of up
to 7 points, but it was not enough before the push of Honduras.
Nathaly Pérez and Cecille Johnson continue to be the "powerful
duo" of Honduras getting 19 and 15 points, respectively, while
El Salvador had in María Jiménez her best scorer with 12 and far
behind Gabriela Funes with 7.
Honduras dominated the attack 39-26, 8-5 the blocking and 8-4
the service, adding 20 points for errors of the opponent by 21
committed.
Caterine Leiva, coach of Honduras: "We react until today, at a
good time, we go with three wins and three losses, which is
better than having gone with nothing in favor, the girls played
well today, at their pace, they made their game and because of
that was the result that occurred".
"It's a very versatile, multifunctional team that could help us
get some players out of emotional potholes and try other
players. We also gave some players a chance to play in the U20
in Honduras."
Noé Fabián, coach of El Salvador: "Today was the worst match we
have had in the entire tournament, too many lapses and lack of
concentration in the reception and defense. Honduras increased
the problems it had in the previous games and applied well in
this."
"I think the defeat was more due to mistakes we made. At the end
they fell emotionally, the psychological part affected us and
they could not react. Against Belize we have to win and wait for
the other results."
El Salvador remains with a record of 2-3, and on the last day
will face Belize which is 3-2. |
