GUATEMALA CITY, Guatemala, October 17, 2015. - Honduras defeated
El Salvador in straight sets 27-25, 25-14, 25-9 for their second
win at the AFECAVOL Men´s U-19 Central American Championship at
Teodoro Palacios Flores Gymnasium.
Honduras stays unbeaten with ten points and 2-0 record, while El
Salvador continues win-less. On day three, Honduras will rest
while El Salvador will play against Guatemala.
El Salvador open win powerful offense while jumping to a
comfortable six point advantage (11-5) in set one. Honduras
reversed for an intense closing 27-25. Set two remained close
up to the second technical time-out when Honduras took control
mostly by serves that El Salvador had trouble in responding.
Honduras overwhelmed El Salvador in set three with huge
advantage.
Honduras held a huge 33-19 margin in spikes. In blocking, El
Salvador had one point advantage (4-3) and in serves both scored
5 points. In errors, Honduras committed 20 and El Salvador 36.
Opposite Alex Godoy topped Honduras with 11 points, all in
kills; and outside hitter Carlos Mondragon contributed with 9
points. Outside hitter Walter Orellana led El Salvador with 9
points.
Captain Carlos Mondragon of Honduras said “we weren’t
concentrated and El Salvador managed to dominate us in the
beginning, but our bench players helped us to recover”.
Diego Ascencio “Chino”, captain of El Salvador indicated “we
lost concentration, everyone made mistakes, I personally had too
many errors y we didn’t follow our coaches’ instructions”.
Head coach Marvin Ulloa of Honduras said “El Salvador started
with a good strategy; they looked for opportunities and were
consistent. The dramatic win of the first set gave us energy
while El Salvador lost focus. Our serves helped us perform
comfortably”.
“It was difficult to execute; our weaknesses were evident,
especially in receiving and our setter is really a spiker. We
will have to play with this the whole tournament” said coach
Gerson Ceron of El Salvador. |
