Honduras defeats Guatemala and is close to the title
TEGUCIGALPA, Honduras, July 19, 2019 - Honduras defeated
Guatemala 3-0 (25-7, 25-19, 25-15) and moved closer to the title
of the 18th Central American Women's U-20 Championship, which
takes place in the Gymnasium # 2 Jorge Galeano of Tegucigalpa,
Honduras.
The Hondurans did not let the Guatemalans breathe, and from the
very beginning of the first set, they overpowered in the attack,
in the service and in the receipt, leaving the Guatemalan girls
with little opportunity to harm them.
Being a game with few unforced errors (22 from Guatemala and 18
from Honduras), it was the strength in the attack of Nathalie
Pérez from Honduras who served the victory on a gold platter.
Pérez scored 31 points during the game. For Guatemala Jimena
Castellanos with 8 points and Laura Cortez with 7 others, were
the best scorers.
In blocking and service, the Hondurans were more effective,
scoring 9 blocks against two by Guatemala and 11-1 in aces.
Guatemala plays against Nicaragua on Saturday and must win by
any score to secure the second position of the tournament.
Honduras closes the tournament against Belize and a victory
assures them the title. The defeat could put at risk (depends on
the rest of the results) in some way the Gold Medal. The other
match is between Costa Rica and El Salvador. |
