Honduras edges El Salvador in five sets

PANAMA CITY, Panama, October 20, 2017 – Diego Guidos scored an all-time record 49 points but could not stop the victory of Honduras over El Salvador 3-2 (29-27, 25-22, 20-25, 20-25, 16-14) in the second day of the XII Central American U19 Men's Volleyball Championship this Friday in Panama.

The Honduran troop began strong winning the first two sets, but the Salvadorans retreated with attacks mainly by the center, that allowed them to enter the fight. Already in the fifth set, the actions came tied at 14-14, but lack of concentration cost the match to El Salvador.

Alejandro Castillo, Honduras coach said "I think the conditions of rookies affected us or a lot of confidence after winning the first two sets. We lost the game rhythm in the third, it was a complicated match, but we achieved the goal which was to win. The tournament is tough, we have to keep working to get the serious commitments we have," said Castillo.

Ulises Trujillo, coach of El Salvador, said that "it was a much disputed game. They (the players) started very badly, with many technical errors, little by little they were correcting and they took a little bit of confidence, managing to gear and give a better match than in the first two sets. The wings were the focus of most of us on this day.
